FinderPlus
FinderPlus is a file search app for macOS that reads the disk itself instead of using Spotlight's index. That way it finds hidden files, system files and anything Spotlight never indexed. It searches names, contents, tags and metadata, and runs on macOS 26.

What it does
- Search file names, contents, Finder tags, comments and metadata
- Read PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument and EPUB files
- Recognize text in photos and scanned PDFs, on the Mac
- Match with wildcards, Boolean operators, regular expressions or fuzzy matching
- Find duplicate files, rename in bulk and export results as CSV
- Shortcuts actions that return files without opening a window
How it's built
Searching without an index
A search walks the disk on a background task and spreads the content reads across every CPU core. Results stream into the window already sorted while the search is still running. A new search in the same folder narrows what's on screen instead of clearing it and starting over.
Swift 6 language mode
Handing results from background work to the interface is exactly the kind of handoff Swift 6's strict concurrency checking can prove safe, so the package builds in Swift 6 mode. The one type the compiler can't check is wrapped in a single place, with the reason written beside it.
Privacy
Everything it reads stays on the Mac, including text it recognizes in images. It skips iCloud files that aren't downloaded, so a search never starts a download. The only network request it makes on its own is a daily update check.
Releases
Pushing a version tag has GitHub Actions build, sign and publish the release and add it to the update feed. Stable and beta releases go out on separate channels, and the app checks each update's signature before it installs anything.
