They are separated here because they are separate searches with separate intent — a team that needs a Laravel API and a business that needs its WordPress theme rebuilt are not asking the same question. How an engagement runs
Scoping — before anything is quoted
The first conversation is about what the thing has to do, not which framework it gets built in. What already exists, what has to keep working while it changes, who edits the content after launch, and what going wrong actually costs. That produces a written scope with the parts I am unsure about named as unsure, because a number that hides its assumptions is not an estimate, it is a guess with a decimal point.
Building — in your repository, not mine
Work lands in reviewable branches against your staging environment rather than arriving as one drop at the end. The schema is settled before an interface gets built on top of it, since a data model corrected in week one costs an afternoon and the same correction in week six costs the interface as well. You see it move, and you can change direction while changing direction is still cheap.
Handing over — a deploy you can run without me
Environment documented, migrations repeatable, and every editable region wired to an admin a non-developer can work in. Where a project continues on maintenance the same access holds, but that is a choice you make afterwards rather than a dependency the build quietly created. Nothing here is written to be hostage to the person who wrote it.
Ways to work together
- Fixed-scope project — A defined build with a written scope and a fixed price. Best when the thing to be made is already clear enough to describe in a page.
- Monthly retainer — A recurring block of hours for maintenance, new features and the occasional emergency. Best for a live application that keeps growing after launch.
- Hourly — For work that cannot be scoped honestly up front — an audit, a performance investigation, or a codebase nobody has documented.
